Taylor Little League (COVID-19) Statement

COVID-19 and Flu Plan of Action

Taylor Little League

Introduction

We live in a world where colds, flu, stomach viruses and other diseases are common.  We, as parents, adults and kids have been trained to wash hands, not share food and drink and stay home when sick.  That said, Taylor Little League is providing this plan of action in response to the COVID-19 virus.  This is a rapidly changing situation, so PLEASE monitor our communication channels for updates.

Purpose and Summary

Little League International has recommended that leagues not begin activities until April 6, 2020; however, since we do not have any school closures in the area OR a confirmed case at this time in our local area (eastern Williamson County), Taylor Little League (along with many of our district members) has decided to continue our original season start dateSince there has yet to be a COVID-19 case confirmed in eastern Williamson County as of March 13, 2020, the season will begin on March 21st as scheduled. To help prevent the spread of influenza, stomach viruses and COVID-19, Taylor Little League is implementing this plan of action.

Practices and Games

Guidelines and tips for Coaches, Parents, and Guardians during practices and games:

1.    Poll parents of players to see if they are going to attend the game.  If teams do not have enough players, please notify the vice-president of your division [baseball (Travis) and softball (Ryan)] so we can cancel the game.  Parents know what is best for their child.

2.    Volunteers or participants should stay home if they have symptoms of a cold or have a fever.

3.    As always, Do NOT share partially consumed water bottles or snacks with others.

4.    [Coaches and Players] Instead of high-fives or handshakes during and/or after practice/games, please tip your cap or elbow bump.

5.    [Coaches, Parents] As always, sterilize all equipment using disinfectant spray.

6.    [Coaches, Parents] As always, utilize hand sanitizer or wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.  Taylor Little League will provide hand sanitizer during games, subject to availability.  Please bring hand-sanitizer if you have.

7.    As always, use gloves to dispose of trash collected while cleaning grounds.

8.    Please remind players to respect each other’s personal space during this time.

Personal Hygiene Tips from the CDC[1]

Clean your hands often

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
